1999-March-19
The nite, tonight, alone, and confident. Inspired by
John Muir
and the past encouraging the future, trying desparately to get it right.
The vast empty loneliness of time stretched nearly to a breaking point
in both directions. I can't stand the futility of history, the lack of
warmth and absence of love. But, my comfort, I remember the one
light; the pivotal person in history,
at the fulcrum where God came to show us how to live and what it's all
about.
Love.
Love one another.
Let all you do be guided by love.
Bear one another's burdens, both joy and pain.
Love one another with real love, as I have loved you.
And this is real love -- to give up your life for your friends.
This message, this man, resonated with sentiments deep within
our conscience. At our core, we know selfishness is wrong. The
Moral Law, written on our hearts, even in the hardest of hearts, reveres
selflessness, self-sacrifice, other-centeredness.
